- If you bought the title within 3 – 12 months from when we withdraw it, we will apply a credit on your Telstra TV Box Office account.

Please note there are some exceptions to this where we will not give a credit or refund, such as where:
- You choose to cancel your Telstra TV Box Office account (unless you cancel if we have seriously breached the Telstra TV Box Office terms and conditions and have not fixed the breach), or
- We are entitled to cancel or suspend your Telstra TV Box Office account if you seriously breach the Terms of Use or you become, or are likely to become, bankrupt or insolvent, or
- we told you before you bought the title that you would only be able to access it for a fixed period of time.

The definition of ‘New Release’ will vary from studio to studio, however in general our new release movies have been released within 12 months of their screening at the cinema.

After a movie has been shown at the cinema, when can I watch it online on Telstra TV Box Office?

With Telstra TV Box Office, you’ll be among the first to rent or buy the latest new release movies online. You can rent or buy movies online roughly 3-4 months after they have been shown at the cinema. Timing differs depending on the title.

I saw a movie on the service and now it's no longer available. What happened?

Telstra TV Box Office operates under slightly different film studio rules around release schedules compared to your local video store. Our contractual arrangements allow us to show New Release titles for a certain time frame, which can differ depending on the title. Certain titles will then be removed from the service for a fixed period of time based on our studio partners’ contractual arrangements. At a later date, we then endeavour to secure the title on Telstra TV Box Office again once available to us.

Does Telstra TV Box Office support Closed Captioning?

Telstra TV Box Office currently only supports Open Captions. Only selected titles will have open captions capability. To find out if a title has Open Captions, enter the Movie or TV synopsis page and look for the [ O C ] icon.

What is OC?

'OC' stands for Open Captions. Captions are on-screen text descriptions that display a video product's dialogue, identify speakers, and describe other relevant sounds that are otherwise inaccessible to people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Captions are synchronized with the video image so that viewers have equivalent access to the content that is originally presented in sound, regardless of whether they receive that content via audio or text. Captions are either open or closed. Open captions are always in view and cannot be turned off, whereas closed captions can be turned on and off by the viewer.

Our own operators can only see a truncated version of your credit card number, further securing your personal details.

Your Transaction History will contain the date you made a transaction, the title you rented or bought and the amount you were charged.

Transactions will appear as "SDF Australia AU" on Credit Card statements.

Will I get a receipt for my purchase?

A receipt for every purchase will be sent via email to the email address used to register for Telstra TV Box Office.

Why do you need my credit/debit card if I am using a voucher or my Telstra bill to pay?

You are required to have a credit card or Telstra Bill linked to your account and want to rent or purchase a R18+ title. There are 2 reasons:

  1. To verify that you are 18 years or older. It is a criminal offence to supply R18+ titles to those who are underage.
  2. As a secondary location check. As part of the contractual arrangements we have with the owners of the content, the Telstra TV Box Office service can only be used within Australia. This is also why your credit/debit card must be issued by an Australian financial institution.

If you are using voucher credit to pay for your rentals in full, no charge will be made against your credit/debit card.

Why did you charge me $1 when I entered my credit/debit card details?

Whenever new credit/debit card details are entered into the system, a pre-authorisation check is performed to determine whether up to $1 could be deducted. The system does not actually take this money from your account, but your online statement may briefly show a reference that looks similar to a standard charge. This reference generally disappears within 48 hours of the pre-authorisation check, however if you have any concerns, please request a printed statement from your bank which will show that this amount has not been deducted from your account. This pre-authorisation check is common amongst online rental services and is performed to ensure the credit/debit details that have been entered are valid.

Which credit/debit cards are accepted?

American Express, MasterCard and Visa cards that have been issued by an Australian financial institution.

I don’t have a credit card or Telstra Bill. Can I still use Telstra TV Box Office?

Telstra TV Box Office customers are currently able to rent or buy titles with a G through to MA15+ rating without stored credit card details or a Telstra Bill linked to their account, but will be unable to rent or buy R18+ titles.

What does the Telstra ‘green dot’ mean?

The Telstra TV Box Office service carries the Telstra ‘Green dot’. This means that watching our movies or TV shows is unmetered for most Telstra Home Broadband Members at home. Please note: usage at Telstra Air hotspots is metered, which means that data usage will apply.

How do I suspend my Telstra TV Box Office account?

Please call the Telstra TV Box Office team on 1800 502 502 to deactivate your account. Please note that as this is a pay-per-view type of service, there are no subscription fees or other charges if the service is not used.

I used to ‘download’ titles from Telstra TV Box Office, and now they are ‘streamed’ to my browser. What’s the difference and why has this changed?

Telstra TV Box Office has moved to streaming technology to deliver movies to you for a number of reasons, which we think will help improve your viewing experience:

Can I view a title from Telstra TV Box Office when I’m offline?

No, you’ll need to be connected to the internet, via Wi-Fi or other, for the duration of the title.

My movie rental keeps freezing and is taking a long time to load. Why is this?

Telstra TV Box Office content is delivered via an adaptive bit-rate video stream, which is specifically designed to overcome variations in the available bit-rate. The lowest threshold of this stream however is 600 kbps. Some internet connections may drop below this threshold throughout the movie, which will result in interruptions and buffering. Customers on ADSL1, some wireless broadband services, some Wi-Fi home networks and internet connections shared by multiple users or applications are likely to experience interruptions. Before purchasing a movie, please watch one of our movie trailers as an indication of the viewing experience you can expect.

Why can't I watch my movie rental on more than one device at a time?

Due to movie studio licensing rules, you are unable to watch a specific movie rental at the same time on more than one device.

I can't find the answer to my question here. How can I contact Telstra TV Box Office?

If you still haven't found the answer you're looking for, please email boxofficesupport@telstratv.com. They will get back to you within 24 hours. Alternatively, call us on 1800 502 502.

• What do I do if I already have a Telstra ID?

Why can't I buy or rent on iOS?

Unfortunately we do not have the rights to sell content on iOS devices. You can buy or rent on our website or any other supported devices excluding iOS and they will be available in your library to watch within your iOS apps.

Why do you need my email address?

What is the minimum speed requirement for Telstra TV Box Office?

What is Express Release?

“Express Release” is a new premium rental option made available by our movie studio partners, offering Telstra TV Box Office customers (as well as customers of other on-demand movie platforms) the ability to rent selected films during their initial cinema release period. Because of this, the price of an “Express Release” rental is more closely aligned with the cost of a cinema ticket (from $19.99) – but with the added benefit of a single price (no matter how many members of your household are watching with you) and a viewing period* of 48 hours once you start watching (so you can pause, rewind and even re-watch later).

It is important to note that “Express Release” is an additional early rental option that is not designed to replace the standard rental release on Telstra TV Box Office. Generally, most films become available to rent on Telstra TV Box Office (and other on-demand movie platforms) around 3-4 months after cinema release. At this time, movies previously made available early via “Express Release” are likely to become available to rent at standard rental prices - usually from $6.99. (However, release dates, availability of rental options and associated pricing may vary depending on the movie studio and their release strategy for a particular film).

* Viewing Period for “Express Release”: You’ll have 30 days to start watching. Once you start, you’ll have 48 hours to finish watching. Even if you only start watching your rented title for a few seconds, the Viewing Period will begin. Specific Expiry and Viewing period information for each title is presented during the rental process.

This means that we will no longer be providing firmware or software upgrades, or providing technical assistance. As we stopped selling T-Box over 2 years ago, T-Boxes have now reached end of life. We will not be able to assess any warranty claims for the T-Box, or replacing remotes etc.

I have a Telstra TV Box Office account that I watch on my T-Box. What will happen to my Telstra TV Box Office?

How long will movies be available for? (Expiry and Viewing Periods explained)

When you rent a title from Telstra TV Box Office, there are two timeframes you need to be aware of – the 'Expiry Period' and the 'Viewing Period'. The Expiry Period is the amount of time you have to begin watching the content you have rented. For most titles, this is 7 days. The Viewing Period is the amount of time you have to continue watching your title after you have first started to play it. For most titles, this is 48 hours. Even if you only start watching your rented title for a few seconds, the Viewing Period will then begin. Specific Expiry and Viewing period information for each title is presented during the rental process.

When you buy a title from Telstra TV Box Office, you can stream this title as often as you like on your Telstra TV, Smart TV, Android, iOS, PC and Mac devices using your Telstra TV Box Office account for as long as we have the right to make the title available to you. We can withdraw titles you have bought in some situations. For more on this, see ‘Can I buy movies and what does this mean?’ Each title you buy can be streamed on up to 2 registered devices at the same time. You can only ever have 3 streams going at once on your Telstra TV Box Office account.

Can I watch a title as soon as I’ve rented it?

The rental and purchase price, if available, is displayed on each title, and is also shown on the Purchase Confirmation screen before payment is deducted.

What does buy mean?

Buying a movie allows you to stream that title on your Telstra TV Box Office account, for as long as we have the right to make the title available to you, on up to 2 registered devices at once.  A limit of 3 streams per account applies at any given time.

You will no longer be able to stream the title if:
- The studio requires us to withdraw it, or
- We no longer have the right to provide the title, or
- We may breach laws or be exposed to legal claims by continuing to provide the title.

We may also withdraw all titles if:
- Telstra TV Box Office is no longer available, or
- We cancel or suspend your Telstra TV Box Office account in accordance with the Telstra TV Box Office terms and conditions, or
- You cancel your Telstra TV Box Office account.

If we withdraw a title, we will try to give you as much notice as possible.  We will give you a refund or credit for the title in these situations (there are some exceptions, which we explain further below):
- If you bought the title within 3 months of when we withdraw it, we will give you with a refund for the title. If you used credit on your Telstra TV Box Office account to buy it, we will apply a credit on your account instead.

My voucher doesn’t work. What’s wrong?

What do the movie classifications mean?

Some movies are exempt from classification and are listed with an E on the Telstra TV Box Office site. A film can be exempt if it was made for business, accounting, professional, scientific or educational purposes, unless it contains a visual image that would be likely to cause it to be classified MA15+ or higher. Other film types that may be exempt from classification include current affairs programs, hobbyist, sporting, live performances or musical presentations.

This category is considered suitable for all viewers. The G classification symbol does not necessarily indicate that the film is one that children will enjoy. Some G films contain themes or story-lines that are of no interest to children. Parents should feel confident that children can watch material in this classification without supervision.  Material classified G will not be harmful or disturbing to children. Whether or not the film is intended for children, the treatment of themes and other classifiable elements will be careful and discreet.

The PG classification signals to parents that material in this category contains depictions or references which could be confusing or upsetting to children without adult guidance. Material classified PG will not be harmful or disturbing to children. Parents may choose to preview the material for their children, watch the material with their children, or perhaps be accessible during or after the viewing to discuss the content.

The Mature category is advisory and not legally restricted. However, material in this category cannot be recommended for those under 15 years of age. Films classified M contain material that is considered to be potentially harmful or disturbing to those under 15 years. Depictions and references to classifiable elements may contain detail. However, the impact will not be so strong as to require restriction.

The MA category is legally restricted. Children under 15 will not be allowed to see MA films in the cinema or hire them on video or DVD unless in the company of a parent or adult guardian. Material classified MA deals with issues or contains depictions which require a mature perspective. The impact of individual elements or a combination of elements is considered likely to be harmful or disturbing to viewers under 15 years of age.

The R category is legally restricted to adults over 18 years of age. Material which is given a restricted classification is unsuitable for those under 18. Material classified R deals with issues or contains depictions which require an adult perspective. The classification is not intended as a comment on the quality of the material. Some material may be offensive to some sections of the adult community. Material which promotes or incites or instructs in matters of crime and/or violence is not permitted.

What is a ‘New Release’?

What parental controls are in place for managing children’s viewing?

To rent or buy a movie from Telstra TV Box Office, you must be 18 years or older. Movies can only be rented or bought once the account holder has been verified by logging in with a username and password. When registering, an Account PIN will be requested and you can choose the level of Parental Control security you would like.

I’m being asked to install Adobe Flash. Why?

Flash is required for the Telstra TV Box Office plug-in to work. You can install Adobe Flash directly here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

• Why did you charge me $2 when I entered my credit/debit card details?

Whenever new credit/debit card details are entered into the system, a pre-authorisation check is performed to determine whether $2 could be deducted.

Some studios restrict the playback of High Definition (HD) movies and TV shows on certain devices. If HD playback of a title is not available on your device, you will be shown a warning before you complete your purchase. If you intend on watching the title on that device, we recommend selecting the SD purchase option. However, if you choose to go ahead with the HD purchase, you will need to watch the content on another device that supports HD playback for that title. Please note: you will not be able to watch a title in SD if you have purchased the HD option, so please choose carefully before confirming your purchase.

What does 'unmetered' mean?

Unmetered means that your internet data usage is not counted towards your monthly data allowance with your internet service provider (ISP). Telstra TV Box Office is unmetered when viewed on most Telstra Home Broadband services at home - though please note, usage at Telstra Air hotspots is metered.

I used to ‘download’ titles from Telstra TV Box Office, and now they are ‘streamed’ to my browser. What’s the difference and why has this changed?

Telstra TV Box Office has moved to streaming technology to deliver movies to you for a number of reasons, which we think will help improve your viewing experience:

Can I view a title from Telstra TV Box Office when I’m offline?

No, you’ll need to be connected to the internet, via Wi-Fi or other, for the duration of the title.

I’m being asked to install Adobe Flash. Why?

Flash is required for the Telstra TV Box Office plug-in to work. You can install Adobe Flash directly here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

• Why did you charge me $2 when I entered my credit/debit card details?

Whenever new credit/debit card details are entered into the system, a pre-authorisation check is performed to determine whether $2 could be deducted.

Unfortunately we do not have the rights to sell content on iOS devices. You can buy or rent on our website or any other supported devices excluding iOS and they will be available in your library to watch within your iOS apps.

Why can’t I play HD content on my device?

Some studios restrict the playback of High Definition (HD) movies and TV shows on certain devices. If HD playback of a title is not available on your device, you will be shown a warning before you complete your purchase. If you intend on watching the title on that device, we recommend selecting the SD purchase option. However, if you choose to go ahead with the HD purchase, you will need to watch the content on another device that supports HD playback for that title. Please note: you will not be able to watch a title in SD if you have purchased the HD option, so please choose carefully before confirming your purchase.

What parental controls are in place for managing children’s viewing?

• Why did you charge me $2 when I entered my credit/debit card details?

Whenever new credit/debit card details are entered into the system, a pre-authorisation check is performed to determine whether $2 could be deducted.

Why can't I buy or rent on iOS?

Why do you need my email address?
